Ursula Ruiz
RN, BSN, IBCLC
I started my career in the pediatric field, working in a highly skilled children's rehabilitation center, where I cared for very fragile infants and children who required high levels of nursing care. My passion during nursing school was for maternal health, specifically in labor and delivery. After obtaining nursing experience, I decided to make the transition into labor and delivery. I worked with patients after they delivered their new bundles of joy, to ensure they had the knowledge and tools right from the beginning of their breastfeeding journey. I ended my labor and delivery career when I delivered my last baby, baby #5!

While I was pregnant with my last baby, I embarked on continuing my education and studied to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I decided to pursue helping mothers with breastfeeding, help them tackle issues/concerns, and to give support in any way you decide to feed your baby! I understand that there are times when breastfeeding is not easy or is not going as originally planned. I would love to be there for you every step of the way to overcome those speed bumps that you may face on your journey!
I am currently a registered nurse at Morristown Memorial Hospital in New Jersey and work on the mother baby unit providing in-patient lactation consultations to newly delivered mothers. In addition I have started Milky Time Lactation, a private lactation practice supporting moms in home and tele-health appointments to assist them with lactation support and offering breast-feeding education.

Everyone’s breastfeeding story will be different than your own but do not ever compare yourself or let others control the way you want to feed your baby, either breast or formula. Breastfeeding is not an easy task, but once you can overcome the first few weeks and you can overcome that speed bump, I have found it to be easier compared to my formula fed children. All in all, no matter the type of milk I chose to feed my kids, they were fed and they are healthy as can be!
I hope to work with you on your feeding goals no matter what you choose!
